Abigail Tere-Apisah’s run in the NCAA women’s tennis tournament ended Sunday with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (2) loss to Cal’s Lynn Chi in Athens.

Tere-Apisah, a senior at Georgia State, posted the best finish in an NCAA tournament in school history.

She failed to overcome poor starts in the first and third sets.

“She’s a tough player,” Tere-Apisah told Georgia State’s sports communications office. “I just had to stay out with her. The weather was super hot too, but I came out and tried my best. I got behind in the first set again, and even the third set too, but I played pretty well. I felt like I earned some points. I’m just happy I came that far.

“Before coming to this match, I said I need to start strong this time. Once again, it didn’t happen.”

Tere-Apisah, a two-time All-American, finishes with school records for career wins (87) and victories in a single season (32).
