Georgia will open SEC portion of schedule at home vs. Kentucky

After Thad Matta turned down Georgia's offer, the school may turn to Tom Crean. Crean was born March 25, 1966 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Crean's wife, Joani, is the sister of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh. Georgia reportedly reached out to Crean to gauge his interest in the job soon after it fired Mark Fox. Crean previously coached at Marquette and Indiana. Georgia men’s basketball will open the SEC portion of its schedule against Kentucky at Stegeman Coliseum on Jan. 7.

The Bulldogs will conclude the regular season with a game at LSU on March 7.

Times for the SEC games also were released.

Previously it was announced that the Bulldogs will open the season Nov. 5 at home against Western Carolina. Notable non-conference games include the Bulldogs’ Nov. 20 game at home against Georgia Tech.

The Bulldogs are coming off an 11-21 season, their under coach Tom Crean. Of the primary starters last season, only two are returning: Rayshaun Hammonds and Jordan Crump.

Georgia brings in a heralded group of signees that ranks No. 10 in the 247Sports Composite. The list includes Anthony Edwards of Holy Spirit Preparatory School, the No. 1 recruit in the country among shooting guards and No. 2 overall, according to the 247Sports Composite.
