Georgia Tech safety Jalen Johnson was arrested Sunday on a charge of simple battery by campus police and was taken to Fulton County jail. He was released later Sunday.

Johnson, a redshirt sophomore from Oneonta, Ala., played in the team’s win over Duke earlier Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

A statement from the school read, “Jalen Johnson is a member of the Georgia Tech football team. The Georgia Institute of Technology does not discuss ongoing investigations.”

According to the Georgia code, a person is guilty of simple battery if he or she “intentionally makes physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature” with another person or “intentionally causes physical harm to another.”

Johnson has played in all eight of the team’s games this season, mostly in a special teams role.
