Georgia Tech players had these reactions after the Yellow Jackets' 42-41 double-overtime defeat to No. 25 Tennessee in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday night.
B-back KirVonte Benson
“Me and TaQuon, we’re both good runners. We’re both explosive when we have the ball in our hands, I believe. This season’s going to be amazing. It’s something we can look forward to. As far as the 1-2 punch, I believe we can cause problems for a lot of other teams.”
“This loss doesn’t define us. I believe we are an amazing team. I believe we can compete with the best, and I believe it’s going to be an amazing season.”
Linebacker Brant Mitchell (a Knoxville, Tenn., native)
“Obviously, I’m pretty torn up about it, but you know what? You’ve just got to keep going. Leadership’s going to take over within our defense and within our team and we’re going to come back and we’re going to be ready to go next week.”
Guard Parker Braun
“We did exactly what we wanted to do offensively. We just had a few missteps and a few lost possessions and things like that that lost the game for us.”
A-back Nathan Cottrell
“It’s frustrating but you have to take the positives and that was our offense. They played really well tonight. Hopefully we can turn that into some success.”
Quarterback TaQuon Marshall
“I really wish the results would have been different. I can’t change that. I’ve got to put it behind me and come back this week ready to work. I’m going to bring the guys on board with me and lead them. We’re going to be ready to play on Saturday.”
On the final play of the game:
“We had the numbers on the back side, reversed out, tried to get outside of it. They overran it, so I thought I could get up under it and try to make a play and get in in time. I think it might have been a little selfish on me. I think I should have given it to KirVonte. Maybe he could have gotten to the edge and dove in on the pylon.”
