Georgia Tech’s game at Notre Dame on Sept. 19 is under consideration as the origination site for that day’s broadcast of ESPN’s “College GameDay.” The game is one of four or five that is being considered, according to a network spokeswoman.

While not as much of a plum as having the popular pregame show stationed in Atlanta for a Tech game, it would regardless bring added national attention to the team and the game, set for 3:30 p.m. at Notre Dame Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets, and quarterback Justin Thomas in particular, have a fan in GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit. In a tweet prior to the season, Herbstreit said he “absolutely” loves Thomas and described him as “a baller. He also tabbed him “the most exciting player” in college football and further predicted Tech to win the ACC. Herbstreit and fellow analyst Lee Corso both predicted that Tech would defeat the Fighting Irish on Saturday’s show.

Almost certainly, both Tech and Notre Dame, ranked No. 15 and No. 9, respectively, will have to win their games Saturday in order to remain under consideration. The Yellow Jackets will be at home against Tulane. Notre Dame, which routed Texas 38-3 in its season opener, is at Virginia.

The game is one of three between teams that were ranked in the Top 25. The others are No. 6 Auburn at No. 14 LSU, and No. 17 Ole Miss at No. 2 Alabama. Two other possibilities are South Carolina at No. 10 Georgia and BYU at No. 13 UCLA.

GameDay last broadcast its show from South Bend, Ind., in 2012, one of eight times the show has been at Notre Dame.

The last time that GameDay brought its set to a Tech game was 2006, when the No. 13 Jackets played at No. 12 Clemson, a 31-7 win for the Tigers.

The show typically begins looking at potential locations two weeks ahead of time. GameDay will be in East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday for Oregon-Michigan State.
