Four-star point guard Charlie Moore has named Georgia Tech as one of his eight finalists following his release from his letter of intent with Memphis.
Moore, a 5-foot-11 guard from Chicago, posted a message on his Twitter account Wednesday naming the schools – California, Illinois, LSU, Miami, SMU, UNLV, Western Kentucky and Tech.
It’s something of an eclectic mix, covering seven conferences and three time zones. Memphis, with whom Moore signed when new Georgia Tech coach was still there, is not on the list. Of the eight, three (Miami, Cal and SMU) were in the final AP top 25 poll, and only Cal and Miami went to the NCAA tournament. SMU was banned from the postseason by the NCAA and also faces scholarship restrictions. Tech, UNLV and Western Kentucky all have new coaches, although Tech is a different case as Moore’s relationship with Pastner has carried over from Memphis.
Earlier Wednesday, Nick Irvin, Moore's coach at Morgan Park High, said that Moore was "very interested" in Tech and that Pastner had been aggressively recruiting Moore, ranked No. 61 nationally by ESPN. Moore made his feelings for Pastner known last November when he committed to Memphis.
“Coach Josh [Pastner] and [then-Memphis assistant] coach Damon [Stoudamire] have been wonderful in this process,” he told reporters. “I also feel that coach Josh will get the best out of me as a player and continue to challenge me like coach Nick [Irvin] has done for me the past four years.”
