Georgia Tech's hire of South Carolina broadcaster Andy Demetra to be the voice of the Yellow Jackets was made official Monday. Demetra replaces Brandon Gaudin, who left Tech in June to work for EA Sports, the Big Ten Network and Westwood One Sports. Demetra's hire was first reported by the AJC last Monday.

Demetra, 35, previously did play-by-play for the Gamecocks’ basketball and baseball teams for seven seasons, calling the baseball team’s NCAA championships in 2010 and 2011. He was twice named the state’s radio sportscaster of the year by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association.

Demetra will call football and men’s basketball games for the Tech radio network, host coaches shows and have a role in other athletic department initiatives.

In a statement, Demetra called Tech “the home of gold-standard radio broadcasters. I’m honored to be trusted with that tradition and I look forward to sharing my passion for play-by-play with Yellow Jacket fans.”

Demetra will have to begin in a hurry. The team will leave for Ireland Aug. 31 for its season opener against Boston College Sept. 3.
