Looking to finish the season with a four-game win streak, Georgia Tech will face Kentucky in the TaxSlayer Bowl on Saturday morning from EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla.
Four Yellow Jackets hail from Jacksonville, and several others are from a stretch near I-95 from Savannah to Daytona Beach.
Given that Tech is scheduled to open next season against Tennessee on Labor Day night in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, this would be the middle game of three consecutive against SEC East opponents, a streak that began with the Jackets’ 28-27 road win against Georgia on Nov. 26.
The game will mark the end of a career for Justin Thomas, one of the finer quarterbacks ever to play for Tech, and a chance at nine victories is on the line. Tech has won nine or more games in three of coach Paul Johnson’s eight previous seasons.
