Georgia Tech assistant basketball coach Tavaras Hardy has accepted the head coaching job at Loyola-Maryland, Tech announced Wednesday afternoon.

Hardy was hired by coach Josh Pastner in May 2016 from his job as an assistant at Georgetown. He is the second assistant to leave Pastner’s staff since the start of the year, following the resignation of Darryl LaBarrie.

Hardy was the principal architect of Tech’s offense, which used tenets of the Princeton offense and took advantage of center Ben Lammers’ ability to pass out of the high post. It helped propel Lammers to second-team All-ACC honors and also helped produce the Jackets’ run to the NIT last season.

Hardy also led the recruitment of guard Curtis Haywood and signee Khalid Moore.

Loyola, not to be confused with the Final Four participant from Chicago, is in the Patriot League and finished this past season 9-22. Having been an assistant at Georgetown for three seasons and holding a Northwestern degree, Hardy seems a good fit for Loyola, a highly regarded college in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Hardy is the fifth assistant of coach Josh Pastner to go on to a college head coaching job.

The hire was first reported Wednesday morning by CBS Sports.
