Georgia Tech has three more scheduled practices before it ends its camp portion of the preseason. The Yellow Jackets’ 12th practice lasted about two hours Wednesday, again in full pads. Red-zone play was a focus.

“About like (Tuesday)” was coach Paul Johnson’s assessment of the workout, continuing his tepid evaluations of his team’s practice habits.

Johnson has challenged the offensive line, with four returning starters, to raise its play. Asked if his motivational attempt had succeeded, Johnson replied, “That’d be a negative.”

The A-backs don’t have a good blocker in the bunch, in Johnson’s estimation, and no one has stood out. Freshman Omahri Jarrett has been eliminated from the competition to play this season, as Johnson said he will redshirt. Redshirt freshman Clinton Lynch is “trying to get on the bus,” Johnson said.

The Jackets, ranked No. 17 in the preseason coaches poll, are widely predicted to win the ACC Coastal Division title.

The team plans to end camp with a closed scrimmage at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday morning. According to the schedule, Sunday would be the team’s first day off after 15 consecutive days of practice. The fall semester begins Monday.
