Georgia State suspends Payne, two players won’t enroll

Linebacker Trey Payne was suspended for at least the first four games of the season for an accumulation of acts of “conduct detrimental to the team,” Miles said Thursday.

Payne, a 6-0, 230-pound, linebacker, redshirted last season as a freshman. He was expected to challenge for playing time this season.

Additionally, safety Sheldon Wynn and wide receiver Michael Harrison won’t enroll at Georgia State because of academic-related issues. Wynn signed with the Panthers out of Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif.

Harrison signed ouf of Mt. San Jacinto Junior College in California.

Additionally, back-up quarterback Clay Chastain, who considered transferring, will stay at Georgia State. Wide receiver Avery Sweeting, who didn’t participate in team-related activities the last few weeks of last season and part of the offseason, has rejoined the team. Sweeting, a junior, has caught 12 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown.
