Georgia State men's basketball team will play in the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico in the coming season.

The Panthers will play Eastern Kentucky and Idaho State on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23. It hasn’t been announced which opponent the Panthers will play on which day.

As part of the Cancun Challenge, the Panthers will play two other games before they get to Mexico — against either Auburn, Purdue, Texas Tech or Utah State. The opponents and dates haven’t been announced.

The four games will count as two played for Georgia State, which is an exemption allowed by the NCAA. However, all four games count in the team’s record and RPI.

Eastern Kentucky was 15-16 last season, and Idaho State was 16-15.

The Panthers were 16-14 last season and lost in the first round of the Sun Belt tournament in New Orleans. The squad returns leading scorer Jeremy Hollowell, point guard Austin Donaldson, shooting guards Isaiah Williams and Isaiah Dennis and forwards Jeff Thomas and Jordan Session.

The team also will welcome transfers Willie Clayton, a power forward from Charlotte, N.C.; Devin Mitchell, a shooting guard from Alabama who played at Collins Hill High; and Jeremiah Davis, a point guard from Ball State. Also joining the team will be two of the highest-rated signings in program history: shooting guard D’Marcus Simonds and forward Chris Clerkley.
