Georgia State hired Skylor Magee as its defensive line coach, replacing Jess Simpson.

Magee comes from Charleston Southern, where was the defensive line coach the past four seasons.

Simpson left Georgia State to take the job as assistant defensive line coach for the Atlanta Falcons. Simpson joined the Panthers from Buford High School in January, ending his tenure as one of the state’s premier high school football coaches.

“Skylor Magee brings a track record of putting out successful defensive linemen,” GSU coach Shawn Elliott said in a news release. “He is a great teacher, great motivator, an inspiring leader and someone we are very fortunate to have on our staff.”

Magee was a defensive lineman at Southern Miss, graduating in 2005.

Elliott also announced that inside linebackers coach Rusty Wright will serve as the team’s recruiting coordinator.
