Georgia Southern will face a Southeastern Conference team the next three seasons.

The Eagles announced Monday they will travel to face legendary head coach Erk Russell’s alma mater, the Auburn Tigers, to open the 2017 college football season.

Georgia Southern and Auburn have met just once before, to open the 1991 season. The Tigers won 32-17.

Georgia Southern has already signed on to play SEC members Georgia in 2015 and Ole Miss in 2016.

A previously agreed to matchup against the LSU Tigers in 2017 has been pushed to 2019.

The Eagles went 9-3 last year - their first of FBS play - under coach Willie Fritz.

In 2015, Georgia Southern will face two Power Five conference teams and four teams that played in bowl games a year ago.
