Georgia could lose to Auburn Saturday night and still make it to the SEC Championship game.

South Carolina took care of that. The Gamecocks’ 23-20 comeback win in overtime over Florida in Gainesville on Saturday eliminated the Gators (5-4, 4-4 SEC) from the Eastern Division race. The Gamecocks (5-5, 3-5) already were out.

As a result, the 15th-ranked Bulldogs (7-2, 5-2) could lose to the Tigers on Saturday and still make it to Atlanta if Missouri loses two of its final three games. Mizzou (7-2, 4-1) plays on the road against Texas A&M on Saturday in a game that kicks off 15 minutes after Georgia-Auburn. The Columbia-based Tigers then play Tennessee in Knoxville and Arkansas at home.

South Carolina’s win also eliminated a three-way tie scenario, and that was also good for Georgia. The Bulldogs would have been eliminated if they tied Florida and Missouri because they had two losses within the division.
