Georgia defensive back Deangelo Gibbs didn’t travel with the team to the Georgia Tech game last month, or the SEC Championship Game, but coach Kirby Smart said it didn’t have to do with Gibbs’ health. However, now there appears to be an issue.
Gibbs is currently away from the team with a "medical issue," according to Jake Rowe of Dawgs247. The nature of the issue is unknown, but the Bulldogs hope to get Gibbs back as soon as possible.
Gibbs, a freshman out of Grayson High School in Gwinnett County, has played in six games this season, collecting three tackles. However, his playing time dwindled later in the season, leading to him not even traveling with the team for its last two games.
Gibbs was one of the Bulldogs’ top 2017 commits, as he was the No. 49 overall prospect in the class, per the 247sports composite rankings, and the No. 4 safety.
Georgia is currently preparing for its College Football Playoff matchup against Oklahoma on Jan. 1. While the Bulldogs are reportedly looking to get Gibbs back as soon as possible, it’s unknown if they plan to utilize him for the big game.
