Minihan’s aunt in Carrollton is such a big Georgia Tech fan that when heard Minihan was being recruited by the Jackets, she assumed it was a joke.

“She didn’t believe it,” Minihan said. “I went down for my visit and everything and she was like, ‘Oh, he actually is getting recruited.’ They think the whole thing is awesome.”

Minihan’s official visit was the weekend of Dec. 2.

Although his father's job with Air Force base in Honolulu led Minihan's immediate family over 4,000 miles away from Georgia Tech and his family in Carrollton, the 6-foot-3, 284 pound guard never stopped hearing about the Jackets. His C arrollton family have been fans and season-ticket holders for years and plan to be through Minihan's time as a Jacket.

Once he moves to Atlanta in the summer for football camp, Minihan is planning to see more of his Georgia family, including a cousin who is a student and on the athletic training staff at Tech.
