Georgia Tech won’t end its season the way it had hoped, but it can claim an achievement by winning at Miami Saturday. The Yellow Jackets would become the first team to beat Miami at Sun Life Stadium in coach Paul Johnson’s tenure.

Tech has lost its past three games there, in 2009, 2011 and 2013. The Jackets’ most recent road win over the Hurricanes was in 2007, coach Chan Gailey’s final season. Tech did beat Mississippi State in the same stadium in the Orange Bowl last December.

“It’s something we haven’t done in Miami,” cornerback Chris Milton said. “It’d be big. It’s just one of those things to try to get off your back.”

A win over the Hurricanes would also complete a cycle for Milton’s class; Tech has beaten the other five Coastal Division teams on the road in the past four years. In Johnson’s tenure, Miami is the only ACC team he has faced on the road that he hasn’t beaten. (Tech has yet to play road games at Louisville and Syracuse.)

“There’s a lot to play for,” Johnson said. “You shouldn’t be playing if you don’t want to play. You don’t go through all the weightlifting and practice and all that (for nothing). You don’t get to play that many games. You should be excited when you get a chance to play.”
