Shaquery Wilson, one of Georgia’s freshman receivers, will not play in the TaxSlayer Bowl because of what is being called an academic issue.

Senior fullback Quayvon Hicks was ruled out earlier as a leg injury will prevent him playing in Saturday’s game.

Hicks is with the team in Jacksonville, but is moving around on crutches. Hicks finishes his career with 23 carries for 166 yards and three touchdowns, two of those touchdowns last year. He also had 12 catches for 132 yards. Hicks had four carries for nine yards this season and three catches for 34 yards.

Christian Payne remains the starter at fullback, while Glenn Welch becomes the top back-up. Both are walk-ons.

Wilson did not make the trip with the team to Jacksonville, interim head coach Bryan McClendon confirmed before Monday’s practice at North Florida University.

Wilson appeared in two games this season, not making any catches.

Safety Jonathan Abram, who started for about half the season, has been absent from practices. His status is uncertain.
