HUTCHINSON, Kansas – Kennesaw State freshman Teremoana Beaucousin highlighted his team's performance at the NCAA golf championships, finishing at 1-under 209 Monday morning. He shot a closing 3-under 67.

At 3 p.m. CDT, as the top 15 teams began their third rounds, Beaucousin was in a tie for 21st. If enough players fall below him to put him in the top 15 after the third round, he’ll earn All-American status. He would become the Owls’ second All-American, following Jeff Karlsson in 2011.

“It was a rock-solid round,” coach Jay Moseley said. “He didn’t make a bogey and really was never even close to making one.”

As a team, the Owls finished 26th at 32 over. In relation to par, it was their poorest finish since the first event of the season. The team played better in its closing round, turning in a 4-over scorecard after going 14 over in the first two rounds.

“I played pretty good,” said Beaucousin, from Tahiti. “I think I just hit good spots on the greens and on the fairways.”

Along with the other 14 teams in its grouping, Kennesaw State had the misfortune of playing its second round and part of its third on Sunday, when the wind conditions were much tougher than Saturday. The Owls’ third round was halted Sunday afternoon by lightning and resumed Monday morning, when conditions were far more receptive to low scores.

“It’s kind of been a roller coaster of a week with all the delays and everything,” Moseley said. “We obviously didn’t play the way we were expecting and capable of, but I was proud of the guys coming out today and playing their best and giving everything they had.”

It was the school’s second appearance at the NCAA championships, following their 26th-place finish in 2011.
