Logan Thomas is 6-foot-6 and 255 pounds. That’s big for a linebacker or tight end, but he just happens to be Virginia Tech’s quarterback.

The junior has passed for 2,109 yards and is also the Hokies’ leading rusher with 422 yards entering Thursday’s game against visiting Florida State.

“That’s a big boy,” FSU defensive end Bjoern Werner said. “That’s a big boy you have to wrap up. If you get back there, you have to make sure he’s not going to break a tackle.”

Thomas has struggled in the passing game, throwing just 13 touchdowns in nine games. He’s completing only 53 percent of his passes, placing him among the lowest in the ACC, and has 12 interceptions.

He may find more success on the ground Thursday. FSU (8-1, 5-1 ACC) has one of the nation’s best defenses, but containing a mobile quarterback has been a challenge. The Seminoles held Clemson’s Tajh Boyd to 44 yards on 18 carries, but South Florida’s B.J. Daniels had 72 yards on 15 carries.

Thomas’ ability to run, as part of the option attack or just scrambling to avoid pressure, is a concern for the Seminoles.

“He’s a big, physical guy,” safety Lamarcus Joyner said. “He’s mobile. That’s always another problem that you have to worry about.”

Noteworthy: This is the seventh consecutive season that FSU has played a Thursday road game. The Seminoles are 3-3 since 2006 on Thursdays and 8-5 all-time.
