Geno Smith, an Alabama sophomore who was an AJC Super 11 cornerback at St. Pius X in Atlanta, was charged with driving under the influence and booked by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office early Sunday morning, according to multiple websites including AL.com.

Sunday morning, Smith was listed as an inmate at Tuscaloosa County Jail, according to the website. Bond had been set at $1,ooo.

“This is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players,” coach Nick Saban said in a news release from the university. “I don’t have all of the details at this point and will handle it appropriately once I’ve had a chance to review the information.”

Smith was a regular contributor during his freshman season, playing significant minutes in the SEC championship and NCAA championship games. In 13 games, he had nine tackles. He was in line for playing time as a nickel back this season.

He is the first Crimson Tide player arrested since four of his teammates were charged with second-degree robbery and other charges in February. They were dismissed from the team.
