ATHENS — Rodrigo Blankenship was won the main place-kicking jobs for Georgia out of preseason.

Blankenship, the walk-on sophomore who handled the jobs most of last year, will be the place-kicker and kickoff specialist on Saturday against Appalachian State.

“We’re excited for where he is,” head coach Kirby Smart said after Tuesday’s practice.

Blankenship beat out graduate transfer David Marvin for the job this month.

“It was really tight,” Smart said. “Consistency was probably the biggest difference.”
