Looking to put drops and critics behind him, University of Miami sophomore receiver Phillip Dorsett said Tuesday that he wasn’t going to allow a forgettable performance on Saturday against Notre Dame to get him down.

Dorsett dropped two passes on the Hurricanes’ opening series, both of which would have resulted in touchdowns in UM’s 41-3 loss in Chicago. He dropped a third pass later in the game and finished with only one catch for 6 yards.

“Everything is not going to be perfect — you’re going to have bad games in sports,” Dorsett said. “That happens to everybody. It happens.”

After the game, Dorsett said he received “threatening” comments on his Twitter account. Asked to elaborate, Dorsett said: “”Just you know how people get, how sports fans are. Everybody obviously has my Twitter account, so just people out there talking … it doesn’t get to me.”

Dorsett was coming off two of the best games ever by a UM receiver, combining for 16 catches, 375 yards and three touchdowns in victories against Georgia Tech and North Carolina State.

“I’m still confident — I had a bad game last week, I know,” Dorsett said. “”I went out today [at practice] and worked hard — I’m excited to get back on the field. I can’t wait to get out there.”

Dorsett met with reporters after the game and on Tuesday, answering repeated questions about the drops.

“I’m not the kind of person that’s going to run away from the media,” Dorsett said. “If I make a mistake I’m going to own up to it.”
