University of Miami freshman tailback Duke Johnson has an undisclosed “lower extremity” injury and is listed as probable for the Hurricanes’ home game Saturday against North Carolina.

Johnson’s status became known Thursday after UM released its weekly injury report. Coach Al Golden, who was not available for comment, did not mention anything regarding Johnson’s injury earlier in the week.

Johnson ranks 14th nationally in all-purpose yards (168.3 per game) but is coming off his two worst outings. Against North Carolina State and Notre Dame, Johnson was held to a combined 61 rushing yards on 20 carries and a total of 172 all-purpose yards.

Through six games, Johnson leads the Hurricanes (4-2, 3-0 ACC) with 381 rushing yards and is third in receptions with 18. He also ranks 20th nationally in kickoff return average (27.9).

Johnson is listed as a co-starter with senior Mike James.

Among others listed on the injury report are backup safety Rashawn Jenkins, who will miss his second consecutive game with an upper extremity injury, and offensive tackle Ben Jones, also sitting out his second straight game because of a leg injury.
