The collegiate career of University of Miami senior receiver Davon Johnson has come to a premature end.

Johnson injured his left knee in Tuesday’s practice and was declared out for the rest of the season on an injury report released by UM on Thursday.

A member of UM’s 2008 recruiting class that was ranked No. 1 by ESPN, Johnson was enjoying his most productive season following a career filled with injuries and position switches. He started three of the Hurricanes’ last four games and had 21 catches for 348 yards.

Johnson enjoyed his finest moment in a UM uniform on Sept. 22, catching sevenpasses for 107 yards in the Hurricanes’ 42-36 victory against Georgia Tech.

Johnson’s absence leaves Miami short of receivers going into Saturday’s home finale against USF. Rashawn Scott, UM’s second-leading pass catcher, was suspended indefinitely last week. Freshmen Malcolm Lewis and Robert Lockhart previously sustained season-ending injuries.

UM also announced that starting safety Deon Bush will not play Saturday. Bush injured his neck making a tackle against Virginia Tech on Nov. 1 and also missed last week’s game against Virginia.
