University of Miami defensive tackle Curtis Porter dressed out for a game for the first time this season on Saturday against Florida State.

But Porter, who began fall practice as a starter, did not play against the Seminoles and coach Al Golden said there is no timetable for the junior’s return. Porter missed nearly two months of practice after undergoing an appendectomy in August.

“Curtis has been out there [practicing] for two weeks,” Golden said. “He’s significantly behind in his conditioning, hasn’t taken any reps with the varsity. We’ll see how things develop here this week, but he is significantly behind at this point.”

Injuries and medical issues have tormented Porter during his career. He has played only three games since his freshman season in 2009.

UM could use help at defensive tackle. The Hurricanes have rotated seven players at the position without much success and have had three different starting combinations in the last three games.

Against FSU, starting defensive tackles Darius Smith and Olsen Pierre contributed two combined tackles in the 33-20 loss.

Noteworthy: The Hurricanes, who can win the ACC Coastal Division if they win their remaining three conference games, did not practice on Monday. After a bye this week they host Virginia Tech next Thursday night.
