On Wednesday, Georgia picked up a commitment from Notre Dame graduate transfer Jay Hayes. It also lost a linebacker, as Jaleel Laguins announced he would be transferring from the team.
Laguins, a former 4-star recruit, announced his transfer via his Twitter page. This is the second day in a row a Georgia player has transferred as offensive lineman Pat Allen did so on Tuesday.
Laguins departure puts the Bulldogs back at 86 scholarships, just one over the limit. The outside linebacker is from Watkinsville and played for Oconee County in high school.
The outside linebacker did not play during this past weekend’s G-Day scrimmage and Georgia is also bringing a number of outside linebackers as part of the 2018 recruiting class. With D’Andre Walker taking on a bigger role and 5-star early enrollee Brenton Cox standing out during the spring scrimmage, playing time would’ve been scarce for Laguins.
Georgia will have to replace both Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy, who saw a majority of the snaps at the position in 2017. Through his first two seasons in Athens, Laguins had played in just 6 games.
The Bulldogs open the 2018 season on Sept. 1 when they host Austin Peay.
