-- He played four seasons at UGA (1995 to 1998) and was All-SEC as a senior.

-- He had 13 interceptions as a UGA player, including six as a junior.

-- Smart was a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

-- He earned his undergraduate degree in finance from Georgia and his master’s degree from Florida State in 2003.

-- He was not drafted by an NFL team but signed with the Colts and was cut.

-- He was the running backs coach at Georgia in 2005. The Bulldogs averaged 162.2 yards per game, third in the SEC.

-- In Alabama's 2010 BCS National Championship Game win over Texas, Smart's defense recorded four interceptions and scored a defensive touchdown.

-- He has coached under Nick Saban three times (LSU, Alabama and Miami in the NFL), and also coached under Mark Richt and Bobby Bowden.

-- He was the 2012 AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year and the 2009 Broyles Award winner as college football’s top assistant coach.

-- His wife Mary Beth Lycett was a basketball player at UGA. They have three kids, two of them are twins.
