Miami has hit a home run with its hiring of former Georgia football coach Mark Richt, according to ex-Braves star and DeLand, Florida native Chipper Jones.
Richt, who was dismissed by the Bulldogs Sunday, will officially be introduced as the Hurricanes' new head coach Friday morning.
Jones posted support and admiration for Richt on his Twitter account Thursday night.
"Good luck @MarkRicht!" Jones said on his RealCJ10 account. "I would send my kids to play for u any day. U are a good man and Miami is lucky to have u. Im pulling for u my friend!"
Jones, a future Baseball Hall of Famer, knows a good bit about football as well. He played football and baseball in high school at the Bolles School in Jacksonville. In 1989, he was picked for All-State teams in both sports.
