Georgia Tech point guard Travis Jorgenson will miss the rest of the year after tearing the ACL in his right knee in the second half of the Yellow Jackets’ loss to Dayton Wednesday night at McCamish Pavilion.
Jorgenson drove along the baseline to the basket, losing the ball as he attempted a shot, and then fell to the floor clutching his knee as play went to the other end of the floor. Jorgenson had an MRI Thursday that revealed the tear. Surgery will be scheduled in the next two weeks.
Jorgenson had been one of the bright spots of Tech’s first four games, showing patience and passing vision in his minutes off the bench.
“This is unfortunate for Travis and a loss for us,” coach Brian Gregory said in a statement. “He had put in a lot of work and was poised to have a very good freshman year. But we know he’s going to get the best treatment and rehab possible, and with his work ethic, he’ll make a full recovery and be back on the court next year.”
He is the second Tech point guard to tear his ACL in less than a year. Corey Heyward tore his ACL in the summer of 2012 and then re-tore it in December. Without Jorgenson, Gregory has Trae Golden, Heyward and Solomon Poole available at point guard.
