The University of Miami didn’t wait long to replace Shane Larkin.
Three days after Larkin announced he was skipping his final two seasons to enter the NBA draft, the Hurricanes officially signed Angel Rodriguez, a 5-foot-11 point guard who led Kansas State to the NCAA tournament last season.
Rodriguez officially signed with UM on Wednesday during a campus visit. Rodriguez, a graduate of Miami- Dr. Krop, announced on April 22 that he was transferring from Kansas State in order to be closer to his family in Puerto Rico. The Hurricanes immediately became the favorite to land Rodriguez, who did not visit any other schools.

It remains to be seen when Rodriguez will be able to suit up for UM. He’s expected to request a waiver of the NCAA’s one-year transfer rule for reasons of family hardship. If an NCAA committee agrees, Rodriguez could be in the starting lineup next season.
A two-year starter at Kansas State, Rodriguez earned second-team All-Big 12 honors this past season as a sophomore when he averaged 11.4 points and 5.2 assists.
