Former Port St. Lucie High star Stephen McGee hit his first college home run and tied a career high with four RBIs as Florida State defeated Presbyterian 9-2 on Tuesday in Tallahassee to remain unbeaten on the season.

McGee, a junior catcher, hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning and added a two-run double in the sixth for the Seminoles (11-0). The homer hit the scoreboard beyond the left-field fence.

“It’s been so long, I don’t even know what it really felt like,” McGee said. “When I hit it, of course I thought (it was gone), but I … took off just in case. But when it came off the bat, it felt great.”

Said FSU coach Mike Martin of McGee’s first homer: “It was just something that I didn’t even know. I just know that Stephen McGee has been invaluable to our baseball team both as a leader and as a guy that plays the game the right way day in and day out.”

Luke Weaver (2-0) earned the win for the Seminoles. The right-hander went six innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out eight.

The loss ended a seven-game winning streak for Presbyterian (8-5). The teams play again at 4 p.m. today.

The Hurricanes led just 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning but scored four runs to break the game open. The key hit was a two-run single by Brad Fieger.

Brandon Lopez also finished with two RBIs for the Hurricanes, who host Central Florida at 6 tonight.
