The NBA announced on Wednesday that Charlotte’s Spectrum Center will host the 2019 NBA All-Star game.

The game is scheduled for Feb. 17, 2019.

“We have decided to award NBA All-Star 2019 to Charlotte based on this deep connection and the belief that we can honor our shared values of equality and inclusion, and we are excited to bring the All-Star Game back to Charlotte for the first time in 28 years,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement released by the NBA.

The 2017 NBA All-Star game was scheduled to be played in Charlotte, but was moved to New Orleans, La. because of North Carolina’s state law, House Bill 2, that the NBA felt restricted the rights of the LGBTQ community.

Silver said North Carolina’s most recent legislation involving HB2 had come to a point where the NBA felt comfortable hosting an event in the state.

“Sports have a long history of helping to change attitudes around important social issues,” Silver said. “We believe holding our All-Star activities in Charlotte will be a powerful way for the NBA to continue this tradition.”
