A court date of Oct. 15 was set for Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer following his arrest and charge of driving under the influence Wednesday. The case is scheduled to be heard at 8 a.m.
The court appearance is scheduled during training camp for the Hawks’ 2013-14 season, the first for Budenholzer after his hire in May. The Hawks are only scheduled to practice between exhibition games on Oct. 15. The regular-season opener is Oct. 30 at the Mavericks.
Budenholzer was stopped by a trooper at 10:30 p.m. on 10th Street at Crescent Avenue in Midtown because the Audi A8 he was driving did not have working tail lights. He took three of four field sobriety tests but declined a preliminary breath test after his arrest at the scene, according to the incident report.
Budenholzer pleaded not guilty to the two charges. He apologized in a statement issued by his attorney Michael Hawkins.
“I take my role as a leader very seriously and hold myself to a high standard. I apologize to the fans and to the Hawks organization for any negative attention this incident has brought upon my family and the organization while the legal process evolves and I contest these misdemeanor charges,” Budenholzer said.
Hawks general manager Danny Ferry said the team is taking the matter seriously and will support Budenholzer during the legal process.
