The four Hawks players who ended the season sidelined by injury provided updates on their status headed into the offseason.
Malcolm Delaney
Delaney had left ankle surgery Monday for an injury that kept him out for the final 18 games of the season. His recovery is expected to take six to eight weeks.
Delaney said he first suffered the injury while playing at Virginia Tech in 2010, but never allowed it to heal properly, limiting the range of motion in the joint.
“It didn’t stop me from playing, but it limited me from doing some stuff,” Delaney said. “Before I hurt it I had a lot more athleticism.”
Delaney is eligible to become a free agent this summer.
Dennis Schroder
Schroder missed the final nine games of the season after he was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left ankle.
“I feel pretty good,” Schroder said. “I am still recovering. I think it was best for me (and) the organization to sit back the last few games and try to go into the summer healthy. I can take two weeks, three weeks off from now and then get to work and get better for the next season.”
Schroder is under contract for next season.
Kent Bazemore
Bazemore suffered a bone bruise to his right knee March 11 and missed the season’s final 15 games.
“I’m feeling good,” Bazemore said Wednesday. “Just taking it easy. I don’t really have to rush or anything. I’ve got a super long summer to get back. I will probably take another two or three weeks off just to continue to heal and start getting back after it in May.”
Bazemore is under contract for next season.
Jaylen Morris
Morris suffered a sprained left ankle March 11, the same day the Hawks signed him to a second 10-day contract, and sat out the final 15 games. Morris said he should be able to return to the court within two weeks.
The Hawks signed Morris to a non-guaranteed contract for next season.
