The annual general manager survey from NBA.com was released on Wednesday at the Hawks were absent from the most categories including ranking in the Eastern Conference and individual predictions such as MVP and best players by position.
There were two notes of interest regarding rookies in the survey. The Hawks had three first-round selections earlier this season and selected Trae Young (in a trade for Luka Doncic), Kevin Huerter and Omari Spellman.
Young did not receive a vote on the question: Who will win the 2018-19 Rookie of the Year?
Luka Doncic, who the Hawks selected as No. 3 overall and traded to the Mavericks for Young at No. 5 overall, was the clear choice.
Luka Doncic, Dallas – 43 percent
Marvin Bagley III, Sacramento – 17 percent
Wendell Carter Jr., Chicago – 17 percent
DeAndre Ayton, Phoenix – 13 percent
Young was not among the other rookies to receive votes. They were Jaren Jackson Jr., Memphis; Kevin Knox, New York; Collin Sexton, Cleveland.
The Hawks other two rookies received votes on the question: Which rookie was the biggest steal at where he was selected in the draft?
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (11) – 27 percent
Svi Mykhailiuk (47) – 13 percent
Wendell Carter Jr. (7) – 10 percent
Michael Porter Jr. (14) – 10 percent
Gary Trent Jr. (37) – 10 percent
Luka Doncic (3) – 7 percent
Kevin Knox (9) – 7 percent
Also receiving votes: DeAndre Ayton (1), Phoenix; Kevin Huerter (19), Atlanta; Omari Spellman (30), Atlanta; Moritz Wagner (25), L.A. Lakers; Lonnie Walker IV (18), San Antonio.
The GMs responded to 49 different questions. They were not permitted to vote for their own team or personnel. Percentages are based on the pool of respondents to that particular question, rather than all 30 GMs.
By the way, the GMs predict Golden State to win the NBA Finals again.
