Here’s a bit of Braves history from Aug. 29, 1999:

Chipper Jones’s solo home run in the top of the 12th inning propelled the Braves to a 4-3 victory over the Cardinals, extending the Braves’ winning streak to 10 games.

Jones’ homer off Juan Avecedo was his 34th of the season and it helped pushed the Braves to a 3 ½-game lead over the Mets in the NL East. Prior to the winning streak, the Braves trailed the Mets by a half-game.

The Braves had an eight-game winning streak in September which ultimately clinched the division title and the National League MVP award for Jones, who finished the season with .319 average, 45 home runs and 110 runs batted in. The Braves defeated Houston 3-1 in the National League Division Series and the Mets 4-2 in the NLCS before falling to the Yankees 4-0 in the World Series.
