Report: Ex-Brave Adam LaRoche to walk away
Colleen Kane, who covers the White Sox for the Chicago Tribune, reported via Twitter on Tuesday that former Braves first baseman Adam LaRoche is ready to retire.
“Adam LaRoche has told White Sox he plans to step away from baseball. Teammates asked him to sleep on it, but he’s confident in decision.”
Adam LaRoche said it's a "personal issue" Kane tweeted. "Out of respect for team, he will consider request before talking on subject in a couple of days," she wrote.
LaRoche had played in two spring games entering Tuesday, on March 4 and March 5. He was 1-for-5, and the one hit was a home run.
According to Cot’s Baseball Contracts, LaRoche is scheduled to make $13 million this season, the final year of his contract.
LaRoche played the first three seasons of his career with the Braves, from 2004-06 and from 2009-10. He was traded by the Braves to the Pirates in January 2007 in a deal that brought reliever Mike Gonzalez to the Braves. He was reacquired in July 2009 in a trade that sent Casey Kotchman to the Red Sox.
LaRoche has a .260 career batting average in 12 seasons, playing for six teams. He has 255 home runs and 882 RBIs.
