Jeff Mathis was named the most valuable player of the tournament as Reinhardt won its first national championship in any sport with a 10-5 victory over Keiser in the NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Invitational in Greenville, S.C.
After Keiser briefly tied the game at 3, coach John Shaw's Eagles went on a 7-0 run to over the next 31 minutes to put the game away. The run started with Cole Hennings and Mathis scoring goals to close the first half. The Eagles would keep Keiser off the scoreboard in the third quarter as Austin Ambrose made a pair of saves and Connor Mills and Artie Lewis each scored in the period and the Eagles led 7-3 after three.
Reinhardt salted the game away quickly in the fourth quarter. After nearly five minutes on offense, Lewis scored his second goal, assisted by Chad Huffman, to give Reinhardt an 8-3 lead.
Defensemen Trey Whittemore and Tony Herrington were named to the all-tournament team, as was long stick midfielder Brent Johnson, Kevon James, and faceoff specialist Grant Sufferling.
