How the game was won: Devin Mesoraco's one-out pinch-hit double off Jason Grilli in the ninth inning gave the Reds a 4-3 win overe the Braves. Grilli gave up consecutive hits in his first appearance since Wednesday, after missing three games due to back spasms. The Braves overcame an early multi-run deficit, as they have several times already in the first five games of a nine-game trip. They trailed 2-0 after Todd Frazier's first-inning homer off rookie Mike Foltnewicz, who didn't give up another run until the seventh. The Braves scored two runs in the third on Kelly Johnson's RBI double and Albert Callaspo's sacrifice fly, and took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on doubles by Jace Peterson and Nick Markakis.

Number: 4. Number of multi-hit games in the past six games for Braves rookie Jace Peterson, who had a single, double and walk Tuesday and is batting .392 (20-for-51) with seven RBIs in his past 15 games.

What's next: The Braves and Reds will play the series finale Wednesday at 7:10 p.m., with lefty Eric Stults (1-3, 4.84 ERA) facing Reds right-hander Raisel Iglesias (0-0, 5.40).
