Former major league pitcher Livan Hernandez, who appeared in 18 games in a Braves uniform, made approximately $53 million during his 17-year career in the majors.
But the retired player has filed for bankruptcy in Florida, claiming debts of up to a million dollars.
Federal court records show Hernandez, 42, filed for bankruptcy on June 30. He says he has less than $50,000 in assets and between a half-million and a million dollars in liabilities.
Hernandez went 1-1 with a 4.94 ERA for the 2012 Braves, his final season in the majors.
He debuted for the Florida Marlins in 1996. The next year, he was MVP of the National League Championship Series and the World Series as the Marlins won the title. He also pitched for nine other teams.
He finished his career with a 178-177 record and a 4.44 ERA.
