Left-hander Sean Newcomb grew up in Massachusetts, a Red Sox fan who attended the University of Hartford. Seeing the Red Sox up close Sunday was no small deal.
“It’s cool,” said Newcomb, who had several friends and family members at the game. “Being out on the field. First of all, walking in down in the tunnel, there’s a picture of all the Sox, like David Ortiz, Manny (Ramirez), Pedro (Martinez). I kind of got some goosebumps. Then I went out on the field and saw the (Green) Monster. It was pretty sweet.”
He was the first-round (15th overall) pick by the Angels in 2014 before joining the Braves in the trade that sent Andrelton Simmons to the Angels in November 2015. This was Newcomb’s first time playing at “Fenway South,” the Red Sox’s spring training home that is a replica of Fenway Park.
