The Braves breathed a sign of relief Wednesday when tests on catcher Kurt Suzuki’s elbow came back negative. He’s day-to-day with a left triceps contusion.

Suzuki was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning of the Braves’ 6-1 win over the Pirates on Tuesday. He stayed on the ground for a moment before exiting the game.

He underwent X-rays after the game and had a CT scan Wednesday morning. The Braves got the best news for which they could’ve hoped.

Suzuki has slashed .261/.325/.426 with nine homers and 39 RBIs across 83 games. The Braves were already expected to promote an additional catcher, likely veteran Chris Stewart, when rosters expand Sept. 1. They could opt to do so earlier depending on Suzuki’s progress.
