How the winning run scored: With two outs in the top of the second inning, Charlotte's Avisail Garcia singled to drive home two runs and give the Knights a 4-0 lead over Gwinnett on Friday night.
At the plate: B.J. Upton, the designated hitter in the third game of his injury-rehab assignment with the Atlanta Braves, struck out in his first two plate appearances, both times swinging. He finished 1-for-5 with a double and three strikeouts and was called out on strikes to end the game. Garcia finished with three hits and four RBIs.
On the mound: Gwinnett starter Omar Poveda (5-7) allowed seven runs (four earned) in six innings. He struck out seven, but gave up six hits and walked three batters.
Up next for Gwinnett: The G-Braves (48-65) begin a series on the road against Durham at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Gwinnett is scheduled to start right-hander Kameron Loe (4-2, 3.19 ERA) against lefty Mike Montgomery (5-5, 4.26).
