The Nationals plan to start Tanner Roark on Wednesday night against the Braves, after the original starter Stephen Strasburg was a scratch, and the Braves plan to counter with Matt Wisler.
While Roark is 2-2 all-time against the Braves (with eight no-decisions), he’s had great success against most of the Braves active non-pitchers. But three players have hit him hard.
Overall, Roark has faced nine active Braves non-pitchers, who are hitting .305 (18-for-59) with three homers and seven RBIs, according to MLB.com.
Freddie Freeman, A.J. Pierzynski and Erick Aybar are a combined 17-for-32 against him (.531), but the other seven are 1-for-27 (.037).
Pierzynski has two of the three homers and five of the seven RBIs.
Nick Markakis is 1-for-9, and Jace Peterson is 0-for-11. Daniel Castro, Jeff Francoeur, Adonis Garcia and Kelly Johnson are a combined 0-for-7.
Wisler has been far more effective against the Nationals, or at least he doesn’t have a nemesis such as Freeman.
The Nationals active batters are hitting .250 against Wisler, with no homers and seven RBIs.
Danny Espinosa is 2-for-4, and Daniel Murphy is 3-for-6. Ryan Zimmerman has a hit in his only at-bat.
Three batters are hitless: Bryce Harper (0-for-4), Matt den Dekker (0-for-3) and Stephen Drew (0-for-2). Jasyon Werth is 1-for-6.
Clinton Robinson has three of the seven RBIs, and no one else has more than one.
Wilson Ramos, Anthony Rendon, Robinson and Michael Taylor are a combined 6-for-26 (.231)
