Gonzalez comfortable with Gosselin at shortstop

When Andrelton Simmons had to leave Wednesday’s game after aggravating a left ankle injury, Phil Gosselin took over at shortstop.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez elected to make that move – as opposed to bringing in Ramiro Pena – even though shortstop was not Gosselin’s top infield position.

“I feel more comfortable with Gosselin at shortstop right now,” Gonzalez said. “It has to do with Pena, coming off the shoulder injury and his arm strength.”

Gosselin remained in the lineup Friday as he played third base in place of Chris Johnson. He led off with Jason Heyward out of the lineup with a thumb injury.

Gosselin hit .417 (5-for-12) on the current homestand. He has multi-hit games in three of the past four games.

“Just trying to get Gosselin some at-bats, keep him in the game,” Gonzalez said of Friday’s lineup change.
