The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association will honor Hall of Fame Braves pitcher Phil Niekro with the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 17th annual Legends for Youth Dinner this fall.
The honor is given to former major league players for their accomplishments on and off the field.
Niekro, a knuckleball pitcher inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997, spent 21 years with the Braves. He was a five-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove winner with the Braves, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.
Niekro hosts an annual golf classic, in Braselton, Ga., that raises funds to benefit the Edmondson-Telford Center for Children, which serves to help abused or neglected children.
He also hosts a Pro-Am Golf tournament which profits Operation One Voice, an organization dedicated to helping children and families of wounded or fallen Special Operations forces.
Niekro is an avid leader and participant in the Legends for Youth Clinic Series, which provides connects kids with baseball.
The awards banquet will be held Nov. 15 at Capitale in New York.
