Five-run 9th inning lifts G-Braves

The Gwinnett Braves scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning as they defeated Norfolk 7-4 on Tuesday night.

Entering the inning, the story of the night for G-Braves had been a weak offense and Tim Hudson’s latest minor-league rehab start. That changed quickly.

The G-Braves trailed 3-2 going to the ninth, but they loaded the bases with one out. Then, a walk to Gregor Blanco sent Chris Burke home with the tying run. The next batter, Wes Timmons broke the tie with a sacrifice fly that scored Brian Barton. Then, Brooks Conrad drilled a three-run homer, his third hit of the night.

Earlier, Clint Sammons led off the fifth and seventh innings with home runs.

In his third start for the G-Braves, Hudson lasted 4-2/3 innings and gave up nine hits (eight of them singles) but only two runs. He struck out one and left with Norfolk leading 2-1.
