Braves
Since leaving the Reds following the 2010 season, Aaron Harang made three starts against the Reds with three different teams and had a 2-0 record. Harang is one of four active pitchers to win 10 or more games with four different teams.
Marlins
SS Adeiny Hechavarria tied a team record with two triples in a game. The last Miami player with two triples in a game was Jose Reyes on Sept. 7, 2012, at Washington. … In the first regular-season showdown between two of baseball’s brightest young stars, Giancarlo Stanton upstaged Mike Trout with a three-run homer. “It’s cool, but I wasn’t anticipating it or circling it on the schedule or anything like that,” Stanton said. “I was looking forward more to seeing my family than seeing him.”
Mets
The Mets turned a triple play vs. the Dodgers last week. The triple play was the first for the Mets since May 19, 2010 at Washington. … Injuries have hurt the Mets this season. They are 60-70 and 15 games out in the NL East. “I don’t think about stuff like that too much, because all teams deal with them,” manager Terry Collins said. “You’ve got to play through it. We lost Matt (Harvey), and that’s a big piece. He would have made a big difference. But he wasn’t here, and somebody else had to step up. You never want injuries, but in our case there are some things we got out of it that we wouldn’t have otherwise. If Matt didn’t get hurt, maybe we wouldn’t have found (Jacob ) deGrom.” DeGrom (6-6) returned last week after being sidelined with rotator cuff tendinitis since Aug 7.
Nationals
Stephen Strasburg became the second Nationals pitcher in the franchise’s Washington history to reach the 200 strikeout plateau during a season. Gio Gonzalez recorded 207 in 2012, his first season in Washington. … The Nationals scored six runs in the sixth on eight hits Sunday, tying for their most hits in an inning since they began playing in D.C. in 2005. That was just another piece of history during a 10-game homestand that included most of a 10-game win streak, five walk-off wins during a six-game stretch, a 9-1 overall record, and the growth of the division lead over Atlanta to eight games. “This was a great homestand,” said Scott Hairston. “I’ve never experienced anything like it. I think it’s safe to say nobody has. And it’s a lot of fun.”
Phillies
Jonathan Papelbon earned his 318th career save, tying Rick Aguilera for 18th all-time in saves. … A mechanical adjustment in between starts helped A.J. Burnett out of a funk. Burnett struck out 12 in seven innings last week. “I just noticed something with my delivery, or the leg kick,” Burnett said. “I just noticed something wasn’t right. I was like, ‘That’s not me out there. Who is that?’ It’s the first time I felt like me in a long time.” Burnett had been 0-6 with a 7.41 ERA in seven starts since the All-Star break prior to Monday. But he was stellar against Washington, setting a season-high in strikeouts while finishing in double-digits for the 35th time in his career.
